Willowsford, a naturally planned new home community in Loudoun County, Va. inspired by the county’s farming heritage and a commitment to natural community design, was named Community of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders this week at the NAHB International Builders Show in Las Vegas.
“It’s an honor to receive such high recognition from the NAHB,” stated Brian Cullen, who is leading the Willowsford development team. “This has been an outstanding year for Willowsford and the inspired lifestyle it promotes within the community. We, and our partners, have worked tirelessly to convey the unique qualities of this special community, and to have those efforts be so richly rewarded is really wonderful.”
Now in its 32nd year, “The Nationals” pays tribute to superior performance in sales, marketing, and community design. The judges honored Willowsford, a 4,000-acre community outside of Washington, D.C. , (2,000 acres of which have been conserved for environmental preservation, recreation and agricultural use), for its innovative concept and successful marketing campaign. Willowsford’s marketing and advertising partners are Fraser Wallace Advertising and Ecendant Interactive in Dulles, Va.
Willowsford has drawn strong sales since opening in October 2011, and is expanding its home collections to be responsive to changing demographics and customer preferences. Builders are required to design homes specifically for Willowsford, following architectural guidelines that provide distinctive streetscapes and higher quality materials including durable siding products as opposed to vinyl and aluminum. New home collections are currently being offered by Arcadia Communities, Beazer, Camberley, Integrity, K. Hovnanian and Van Metre Homes.
In addition, the community has spectacular amenity infrastructure that has been built upfront and is inspired by the region’s farming heritage-stone pillars, four-board fencing, a 200-acre farm (Willowsford Farm) growing products for the community, a lake complete with boat house, parks, more than 40 miles of trails, pools and community centers that are underway and include a list of amenities such as demonstration kitchens for cooking classes and community events, fitness center, and more. The community is extraordinary and has a unique look and feel like no other.
Since 1942, NAHB has been serving its members, the housing industry, and the public at large. It spotlights the most creative and innovative builders, remodelers, architects, developers, land planners and interior designers in the nation. Every year, the awards program, sponsored by NAHB Design Committee, recognizes outstanding design in single-family and multifamily homes of all types and sizes, communities, interior design, remodeling and rental developments.
